Study on Level of Vegetation Land Fragmentation in Western Province, Sri Lanka

Muthurajawela Marsh and Negombo Lagoon have lost their marshland mangroves from 41% 21% accordingly 1997 to 2017. Vegetation land fragmentation (VLF) is the foremost reason that accelerates vegetation cover change. However, Sri Lanka has not been given sufficient attention investigate VLF with case studies. Further, patterns like dissecting, shrinking, disappearing are still essential empirical studies comprehend phases of VLF. Therefore, this study attempts quantify level (LVLF) in Western Province’s Grama Niladhari Divisions (GNDs) 2000 2020 by applying Landscape Division Index (FRAGSTATS). It further analyses using 200 fragmented locations. The key findings demonstrate 54% GNDs more than 60% LVLF Gampaha District 2010. Although it reduced up 49% 2010-2020, remains highest position. additionally discloses significant increment along expressways 2010 2020. 46% patches indicate mixed patterns. provides methodological application quantitative insights for planners its
